John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs that he wrote, many of which were situated in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in affection with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired numerous people to go to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. He is the face of Colorado for a lot of people across the globe. When I travel, you will meet people on the other end of the globe. For example people from New Zealand. And when you tell them you're Colorado-based, Colorado people will respond with "Oh John Denver!" Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff created the track along with Johnny Cash in mind but the moment Denver heard an early version immediately, he realized the song could be an instant hit. Following the performance on stage in Washington D.C. to a huge crowd, the singer released the song a couple of days afterward.
